Wednesday 27 April saw the kick-off of two other exhibitions by Palestinian artists. Both art exhibitions focus on visual art yet they are incredibly different. As such, they showcase the beautiful diversity of the Nablus festival and the broader Palestinian culture. These exhibitions will run until the end of the festival, so no worries if you haven't walked in so far: there are a few days still to watch, experience and learn.
The exhibition at the beautiful French Institute holds a rich variety of art, with ceramics and mosaics as well as paintings and even accessories. The artist, Mais Rosl Abu Sa'a - Takruri, has specialised in interior decoration and this is very notable in her use of materials and colours. Mais paints on glass, with oils, watercolours and acrylics. The accessories she creates are all made of recycled materials - from the skin of lemon and grapefruit to recycled metals and coins - and they are all FOR SALE for very democratic prices!
The exhibition at the Hamdi Manko Center is really one of a kind. The artist Ehab Naniesh is an immensely talented tattooist based in Nablus who now shares his art with us in a very different fashion. His work, entirely in black and white, is at once worldly and intimate, sharp and soft.
